A Day Spent Hiking

This post features student writing.

Hello everyone!

My name is Jack and today I will be your student blogger. We started off the day today with a hike in Los Picos de Europa. We took a teleférico (cable car) up to the top of the mountain and hiked for two hours. On our way, we saw many horses and goats. There was also a little pond on the top of the mountain that we stopped by to eat lunch and relax.

We took the cable car back down the mountain and had a few hours to hang out, sleep, and relax. Then we met together for a language lesson where we learned about some tenses. After that, we had a discussion about the culture that one sees at first glance vs. once you explore more. We learned about some aspects of daily life in Spain that differ from the U.S.

We then drove to a monastery and got a quick tour of the church there. Next, we went to Potes and broke off into small groups to explore, go shopping, and see performances in the town’s central area. Just before dinner, there happened to be mime/magician/interactive theatrical show put on in the center of Potes, and a decent-sized crowd gathered ‘round, including most of our students! What a spectacle! The best part was that our very own “Ollie” Hong was brought up to the stage to be a part of the show, and it was a magical scene.

For dinner, we split into two groups and ate a delicious meal. The jamón, veal, chicken, and queso left us all stuffed and ready to go to bed.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s blog post by our very own Madeleine!

Adiós,
Jack
